PARENT-STUDENT-TEACHER COMPACT

 

It is the goal of Benton Elementary to give every child the opportunity to reach his/her full potential in all areas of growth, intellectual, emotional and physical. We, the teachers, administrators, staff and parents in partnership, realize that learning can take place if there is a joint combination of effort, interest and motivation on the part of the school, the home and the community working together toward the goal of children achieving the states high standards.

 

This compact is a voluntary agreement and a promise of commitment to help

 

                                                                         progress in school, promoting his/her achievement.

 

We believe that this agreement can be fulfilled through our team effort.

 

As Parent and School Staff we expect the student to:

  1. Attend school regularly and be on time.
  2. Try to do his/her best in work and behavior.
  3. Respect and cooperate with other students and adults.
  4. Ask for help when needed.
  5. Listen and follow directions.

 

As a Parent I agree to:

  1. Help my child resolve conflict in a positive way.
  2. Have ongoing communication with my child and teacher.
  3. Support the school in its efforts to maintain proper discipline.
  4. Limit and monitor my child’s TV viewing.
  5. Read with my child and let my child see me read.
  6. Show support for my child and the school staff and respect cultural differences.
  7. Help my child arrive at school on time and with the necessary supplies.
  8. Monitor my child’s homework.

 

As a Teacher I agree to:

  1. Provide a safe environment conducive to learning.
  2. Use instructional methods and techniques that work best for my class, and provide access to the curriculum and methods being used.
  3. Help each student grow to his/her fullest potential, utilizing high quality curriculum and instruction, computer resources, supplemental materials, and after school programs.
  4. Ongoing effective communication with my students and their parents, through use of newsletters, internet and handouts.
  5. Provide information to the parent and the student on the student’s progress as well as attendance records and discipline notes, using the “Active Parent” link on the district web site, or by direct contact if necessary. Make available to parents and student’s current test scores.
  6. Involve parents in the classroom for observation and/or participation. When possible provide parents with volunteer opportunities for the classroom as well as the school.
  7. Provide parent/teacher conferences at least annually and when requested by parents to accommodate parent’s schedules as much as possible.
  8. Provide through the website a list of homework help-lines available for parents and students. This information can be located at www.polk-schools.com .
