Science Resources

The Tennessee Energy Education Network distributes ACCENT units monthly. Each unit focuses on a specific energy or science-related topic and includes background information, contact organizations, songs, activities, literature connections, transparencies, related web sites, free/inexpensive materials to order, etc. These units are posted on the Roane State Community College website where they can be accessed and printed by teachers. To view current ACCENT units, click here.

Also available from TEEN is a classroom energy challenge puzzle, a giant crossword puzzle that has over 1,000 clues. One per classroom FREE! Call 1-800-342-1340 to order. There are many other free energy and science-related materials available to teachers by calling the same number.Visit the TEEN website or click here for a description of available materials.

Science teachers will find free video resources that can help connect their lessons to real-world applications at TheFuturesChannel.com. The site produces short documentary-style videos that take students behind the scenes with professionals from a wide range of careers. There are also classroom activities based on the video content.

Teacher's Domain, a website from PBS, offers free educational resources developed from award-winning programs such as NOVA and A Science Odyssey. The site has recently launched a section devoted to Open Educational Resources- downloadable, sharable, remixable video segments, interactive activities, and lesson plans. All content is free after registering.

Highlights for High School Massachusetts Institute of Technnology offers free online courseware for AP Physics and AP Biology. Also available are materials from MIT introductory courses- all free!
